finders keepers | royal exhibition building

yesterday i made a last minute decision to make my way over to fitzroy,
and check out the finders keepers market.
drawn by my love of handmade combined with the building that was home to this event:
the world heritage listed royal exhibition buildings.

this place is magic.

i soon discovered that i probably needed two visits,
one to shop [i cannot begin to tell you how much handmade goodness there was here];
and one to absorb the building, the people, the ambience.

i also really wish i had the courage to ask strangers if i could take their photo,
i need to work on this…
so many interesting faces.

not to be one to come away empty handed,
i bought this [it's been on my 'want' list forever],
and, amongst all of the other beautiful distractions,
i took these:

I like to sit on “my fat ar#¥” a lot more than I possibly should! I spent my weekend chilling and knitting and not doing to much of anything and now I have a sense of de ja vu, days of old, before husband and children doing wonderful spontaneous things like this!
But seriously I felt like I went there with her! What an amazing thing to be able to create a feeling for others thru pictures! And I just spent the last half hour watching the sky pass by and imagined all the beautiful shots my special friend might take…

as i scroll through your photos, i always experience a progressive jaw dropping and by the end of the set, i am left with a big, real smile. it is honestly a physical experience. you are that good. i am always so drawn to people in pictures, but in your work, landscapes, lines, light, all convey every emotion and tug at me in just the same way. this place looks like somewhere i would love to be caught up in…and that last image. wow. so amazing tamara.

I can’t tell you how green with envy I am of you. That used to be me at such events, Fitzroy used to be my hood, I used to take pretty pictures of strangers (this was drummed into us at uni, to approach strangers for photographs, I am grateful for it now!)
Now I am sitting in our ‘donga’ on a cattle station in outback western Queensland, swatting bugs away, listening to snakes eat the frogs at the back door and with the air con on.
    I miss you Melbourne!
